About Me

Introduction

Hello! I’m so glad you are here. Starting therapy is a big deal, and finding the right therapist is key. My name is Alessandra and I’m passionate about helping people who are navigating difficult life transitions. If you are feeling stuck and overwhelmed about life, I would like to help. Thank you for reaching out and taking the first courageous step in your journey toward greater health.

I am a Registered Social Worker and psychotherapist with 16+ years of experience, 11 of which I spent working in a hospital-based psychiatric setting, supporting individuals facing a wide range of mental health challenges.

I now bring that clinical expertise into private practice, offering individual therapy in both English and Portuguese.

Originally from Brazil, I moved to Canada over 20 years ago and completed my university education in Toronto, where I’ve lived, studied, and worked ever since. My personal and professional experience has given me a deep understanding of the emotional challenges that can come with major life transitions—leaving family behind, adapting to new cultural norms, and navigating identity in a different environment. These insights continue to shape my work with clients facing anxiety, depression, life transitions, cultural adjustment, and relationship stress.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based modalities, and I work collaboratively and compassionately to help individuals build insight, manage difficult emotions, and create meaningful, lasting change.

My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, life transitions, emotional regulation, and relationship challenges. I also support individuals who are seeking personal growth, self-understanding, and a greater sense of balance in their lives.  Whether you’re experiencing a specific issue or simply feeling overwhelmed, therapy can be a valuable space to explore what’s going on and build tools for lasting change.  All sessions are currently offered in a confidential, virtual format, providing flexibility and accessibility from the comfort of your own space.

Clinical Approach / Philosophy

My approach to therapy is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and the belief that meaningful change is possible for everyone. I work exclusively with evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based strategies. These approaches are backed by research and have been shown to be effective in helping individuals navigate a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges.
